I Won . . .Now You, Too, Can Win A Cookbook Giveaway!
I wrote a comment for a cookbook giveaway on Margaret Roach’s entertaining and informative blog, A way to Garden. A month later an email from Margaret greeted me with the subject line, “You won Alana Chernila’s cookbook and other goodies.” Then, in early December after the exchange of a few more emails, I received an autographed copy of Alana Chernila’s beautiful new cookbook, The Homemade Kitchen.
Although Alana’s thoughtful guidelines for cooks head each chapter, I went straight to the tempting recipes for everything from homemade cheese, kimchi, pot pies, platter salads to cheesy fish crackers. (My only grumble goes to the publisher. The book’s binding doesn’t allow the book to lie flat. Rather an important feature for a cookbook.)
“Do your best … then let go”
My giveaway winnings also included a matching tote with its backside printed with one of Alana’s guidelines. “Do your best … then let go.”
I could have/would have let go. However, in a thank you note to Margaret, I mentioned that one of the “other goodies” hadn’t arrived. Margaret followed through with the publicist. A day or two before Christmas, a second box arrived with the promised Zwilling chef’s knife. (Great knife. Very sharp and well-balanced.) With great delight, I also discovered two additional real-food cookbooks included in the box as a thank you for my patience. 🙂

My family has food allergies, always looking for healthier choices and new recipes.
A healthier 2016…. Is my recently joining in a local CSA (and in So Cal that will mean fresh greens 12 months a year!)
I like the looks of the Mark Bittman book very much. Thanks for sharing!
So easy to become spoiled, in a good way, with fresh greens 12 months a year. What a delicious path to a healthier 2016.
You always amaze me with your wonderful cooking
everything is so good!
Thank you, MaryLouise, thank you.
This is such fun, Janice. And so very generous of you. I am always so inspired by the joy and expertise you bring to all of your cooking. Although I’m a family of one, I think the Oz cookbook would be a nice addition to my ongoing intention of eating healthier. Much love to you.
Thank you, Cheryl, the poetics of your soul touch my heart.
I love A Way to Garden too! Congrats on winning and thanks for sharing… The Homemade Kitchen will hopefully have a home on my bookshelf someday. Of the books you are giving away, the Kitchen Matrix book sounds interesting to me. Thanks for sharing.
You’re most welcome, Kathy. Nice to meet a Way to Garden friend.
I would like to win the Kitchen Matrix Cookbook. I am trying to eat healthier by cutting back on carbs and sweets.
Janice, you are so generous. Thanks for sharing your winnings. What fun! If my name is drawn, I would like Mark Bittman’s Kitchen Matrix.
I have a personal coach guiding me toward whole health in body, mind, and spirit. The program offers guiding principles and categories of practice that I adopt and adapt to reflect my values, goals, and current state. My coach is a wise and caring guide, not a drill sergeant. It’s all about balance. Love to you.
Wow! sounds fabulous, Olivia. I look forward to learning more of your journey toward whole health with your wise and caring guide.
Hi Janice;
I need new healthy recipes because my cooking is very boring. I’d love to win The Homemade Kitchen. Thanks so much.
🙂
Hi Janice,
This year I plan to be more creative in my cooking. In summer when going to the farmers market, Bill & I pick out a vegetable each we that we don’t normally eat and find fun and tasty ways to prepare it. This winter I’m looking for new healthy recipes that I can prepare to keep us happy and healthy in this New Year.
Wishing you the best for 2016! 🌷
Sounds like this cookbook giveaway is perfect for fulfilling your New Year’s intentions. Merle, how did you make that lovely flower?
I can only do it on my iPad & iPhone. They are emojis. Lots of different ones. They are fun! And yes, I would love to win one of the cookbooks! ☺️
Hi Janice,
Congratulations! How exciting to have completed another Cook Book.
I’m sure you will choose the right person to have your new Book. I see some of your mouth watering recipes on FB. I like simple recipes since I cook for one.
Thank you, Margie, though let me explain. I won a cookbook in a giveaway and was given two others. And it is one of those other two books that someone will win in a random drawing. I haven’t written another book. . .though kind of through all the recipes on this blog.
Hi Janice,
Let’s see………lose 5lbs, exercise daily, eat 90% ‘healthy’ and have fun with the other 10%.
And……remember to be grateful for so much – including having you as my one and only sister!
Happy New Year.
/s
May your intentions be fulfilled. . .including having fun with that other 10%
Thanks – Actually, ‘healthy’ food is fun as well.
Should I win, my book selection would be the Dr. Oz Family.
Thanks for the post.
Couldn’t agree more regarding “healthy food.”
Janice,
This is so fun! Thanks for sharing your extra books with us! This year I will grow my own sprouts again to add to my salads, sandwiches and everything else! I stopped doing it for some reason but its time to get those little micronutrients they carry back in my body!
The book I would love is Mark Bitmans.
Thank you for all your wonderful recipes you share with us!
You are so welcome, Stella. Great idea to get sprouts going again. . .I so desire fresh and light during the winter months. Sprouts are certainly that. Have you tried growing sunflower sprouts? Definitely our most favorite sprouts of all.

I am starting the New Year by using everything from my freezer and starting over to replenish. Also using canned goods and boxed goods that have accumulated. This is sparked by my inability to drive and need to organize so I can find things. I would like Mark Brittma’s book.
A great beginning to the New Year, Marjo, that will benefit you all year long.
Janice, here is a solution for the cookbook or any book that doesn’t lie flat. Take the book to Office Max (Office Depot) and have a spiral binder put on the book. Not only will you be able to lie the book flat but you will also be able to “fold” it open having one page only displayed in case your cooking counter is full of yummy ingredients with bowls and utensils and you require as much counter space as possible. I have done this with many books and with personal notes that I wanted to be bound. Caution: Installing spiral binders on books can become addictive!
What a great idea, Debra, thank you!
Part of being healthy is also being mentally healthy. I”m going to be more vigilant in self-care and taking time for myself.
I’d love to win The Oz Family Kitchen! 🙂
I so agree with you, Ariel, on the importance of self-care.
What a wonderful way to move the abundance around the planet. Thanks for sharing these lovely cookbooks. I would love the Mark Bittman book as his recipes and insights are spot on.
“move the abundance around this planet” Love this concept, Maribeth, thank you.
I’m trying to cook from scratch and i hope the kitchen matrix would help!!
Yes, I so agree that cooking from scratch is foundational for healthier eating.
I am going to set modest goals and emphasize nutrition rather than calories. Wish me luck!!
Good luck to you, Mary Ann. You might enjoy watching this PBS Michael Pollan video where he speaks directly to this issue.
